Currently, Barry is busy in the studio writing and producing great music for some established artists, as well as new ones. One of his current projects is jazz saxophonist Michael Lington. Among projects recently completed is a collaboration with the amazing Billy Ocean on his first standards album, ‘Here You Are’. It was released in Europe in May, 2013 to some great reviews!! Barry has also worked on the upcoming Anita Baker album “Only Forever”. Anita was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal on the single ‘Lately’! Barry has also co-written a song for Faith Evans’ new project R&B Divas on TV One, titled “Sisterfriend”. The CD is out now. He has also written and produced on Siedah Garrett’s upcoming project “The Answer’s Always Love”.
Barry also produced Freddie Jackson’s newest cd – “For You”. The single “I Don’t Wanna Go” hit the Billboard Charts. He has also worked on Elisabeth Withers album entitled “No Regrets”. Recent releases include songs on Sweet Honey In the Rock – “Are We A Nation”, Elisabeth Withers first album, “It Can Happen to Anyone” and songs on the George Benson & Al Jarreau collaboration “Giving It Up”, gospel artist Yolanda Adams album entitled “Day By Day”, Kenny Lattimore’s classic covers album entitled “Timeless” on Verve Records. “Madea’s Family Reunion” Soundtrack on Motown Records and a Christmas Album with Anita Baker entitled “Christmas Fantasy”, as well as work on the Dave Koz release “At The Movies” – “Somewhere” featuring Anita Baker, Peabo Bryson’s album “Missing You” and Paul Taylor’s “Burnin” on Concord Records.
Barry has not limited his composing to the record industry. He has written numerous songs for films and TV. His most recent film is “Hot Flash Havoc”. His scoring activities include the documentary film entitled “Chisholm 72-Unbought and Unbossed” which won a Peabody Award. Barry has also completed work on a documentary entitled “I’m Carolyn Parker – The Good. The Mad and the Beautiful” by the Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme.
Barry is pleased to be a part of the faculty for the NYU Steinhardt Demo Production course this year. He was on the faculty for the 2013 and 2012 NYU Summer Songwriters’ Workshops – where he and other songwriters shared their knowledge with the talented students in the program.
Barry was pleased to once again be a panelist at ASCAP’s 2013 EXPO. He was honored to be one of the songrwriters that took part in ASCAP’s “We Write The Music” 2011 event at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., along with Hal David, Lyle Lovett, Jackie DeShannon, Dean Kay, Brett James, Hillary Lindsay, Gordie Sampson and others. He was pleased to have Freddie Jackson perform his hit “You Are My Lady” at the event.
Barry has received numerous ASCAP Pop and R&B awards. He has served on the Board of Governors New York Chapter for N.A.R.A.S., as vice president and an active participant in the Grammy in the Schools program, as well as other NARAS events.
